Dakota Dunes sits at the confluence of the Missouri and Big Sioux Rivers in the far southeastern corner of South Dakota — the "two rivers" the club takes its name from. This part of the state feels distinct from the open plains to the west, with the river corridors bringing tree cover, elevation change, and a humidity that puts it closer to Iowa or Nebraska in character than to the Black Hills. It's a community that essentially exists because of golf, developed around the course in the early 1990s as one of the region's more ambitious private residential projects.
The layout plays as a par 70, which signals some design intention beyond simply fitting standard holes onto the land — expect shorter, more strategic tests alongside the course's longer challenges. The Missouri River bluffs and riparian terrain give the routing a natural drama that flat-state courses often have to manufacture.
The Sioux City metro, just across the state line in Iowa, provides the bulk of the membership base, making Two Rivers a genuinely regional club rather than a purely local one. For visiting golfers, it represents a legitimate destination in a stretch of the country where quality golf can be easy to overlook.
