Golf des Gorges du Tarn

Few departments in France feel as remote as Lozère — the least populated in the country, a high plateau world of granite, volcanic rock, and river-carved canyons where the land seems to resist settlement. Golf des Gorges du Tarn takes its name from one of France's most dramatic river gorges, where the Tarn has cut deep limestone cliffs through the Causses, a landscape more associated with shepherds and buzzards than fairways.

La Canourgue sits on the edge of the Causse de Sauveterre, a spare and windswept tableland at serious elevation, which means this course plays in genuine Massif Central conditions — thin air, sharp light, and weather that can shift quickly even in summer. The terrain itself does the design work here, offering natural contours and panoramic views that a flat parkland course could never manufacture.

For visiting golfers, the appeal is inseparable from the surrounding country. The gorges, the medieval villages, the Aubrac plateau to the west — this is a round played in one of southern France's last genuinely wild corners.
