Granbury sits about an hour southwest of Fort Worth, where the Brazos River broadens into Lake Granbury and the rolling limestone terrain of the Texas Hill Country transition zone shapes everything around it. It's a quietly proud small city — one of the more intact Victorian-era downtowns in Texas — and the golf out here reflects that unhurried character: courses built into the land rather than imposed on it, where elevation changes and cedar-dotted ridgelines do most of the design work.
Nutcracker Golf Club fits that mold. The name itself signals something a little offbeat, and the layout plays into the rugged, unpretentious side of North Texas golf — the kind of course where the scenery earns its keep and the challenge comes from the terrain rather than from length alone. At par 72 across 18 holes, it's a full test built for the local golf community as much as for visitors passing through.
Hood County draws weekend golfers from the Fort Worth metro looking to escape the flat, featureless parkland layouts closer to the city. Nutcracker offers the antidote: real ground, real contour, and golf that rewards course management over raw power.
