Few French cities carry quite the weight of history that Nîmes does — the Roman arena still hosts concerts, the Maison Carrée remains one of the best-preserved temples in the ancient world, and the city sits at a cultural crossroads between Provence and the Languedoc. Golf Nîmes Campagne occupies the agricultural flatlands that ring the city, where the garrigue scrubland gives way to vineyards and sun-baked fields. This is Mediterranean golf in the truest sense: wide skies, dry summers, and a landscape that feels nothing like the manicured parkland of northern France.
The course itself plays through open, relatively flat terrain that is characteristic of the Gard département, where the mistral-adjacent winds off the Rhône corridor can reshape a round in an instant. The routing takes advantage of mature trees and natural water features that provide definition across an otherwise expansive site.
As Nîmes's main public-access facility, Campagne functions as the workhorse of the local golf scene — the place where beginners find their footing and regulars build their games, rather than a destination course chasing prestige rankings.
