Sun City Lakes West is one of several courses woven into the fabric of Del Webb's Sun City development, the pioneering active-adult community that essentially invented the template for retirement living in America when it opened in 1960. Golf was central to that vision from day one — Del Webb understood that a course wasn't an amenity so much as the community's backbone, a daily destination that gave residents a reason to get outside and a shared social rhythm. Lakes West, as the name suggests, is part of the "Lakes" series within Sun City, layouts designed to give everyday players an enjoyable round in the desert Southwest without demanding a scratch handicap.
The Sonoran Desert setting means warm winters that make year-round play not just possible but genuinely pleasant, drawing snowbirds from across the northern states who trade their shovels for sand wedges from November through April. Mature landscaping softens the desert edges that newer Arizona courses tend to flaunt more aggressively.
This is a members' community course in the truest sense — built for the people who live here, played at a comfortable pace, and valued for the friendships it sustains as much as the golf itself.
