Those familiar with the Nasu highlands of northern Tochigi Prefecture know the area as one of the Kanto region's most rewarding golf destinations — a volcanic plateau rimmed by forested ridges where the air runs noticeably cooler than Tokyo even in midsummer. 那須小川ゴルフクラブ occupies the quieter, southeastern reaches of that broader Nasu district, set within Nakagawa Town along the valley corridors carved by the Naka River. The terrain here is gentler than the windswept uplands closer to Nasu-dake, but the wooded surroundings and clean mountain air give the course a distinctly pastoral character that separates it from the dense concentration of resort-oriented layouts further north.
Nakagawa Town itself is lightly populated, agricultural in feel, and largely free of the resort traffic that follows the Tohoku Expressway toward Nasu Onsen. Golf here reads as a local, unhurried affair rather than a destination showcase.
The club fits the profile of a quietly maintained members' course serving the communities of northern Tochigi — the kind of place where regulars know every bounce and the pace of play reflects the countryside around it.
