Mullett Lake Country Club takes its name from the glacially carved inland lake that defines this corner of northern Michigan — a landscape of cold, clear water, dense hardwood forests, and the particular quiet that sets in when tourist season winds down. Cheboygan sits near the top of the Lower Peninsula, where the Straits of Mackinac are close enough to feel the shift in weather coming off Lake Huron, and where golf has a seasonal rhythm dictated by genuine winters.
Without records to draw from, the specifics of the club's founding and original design aren't something to guess at — but private country clubs in this part of Michigan tend to reflect their communities closely. They exist for members who return summer after summer, who know every break on every green, and who measure a round as much by the company as the score.
What the setting almost certainly delivers is the visual character of the north woods: mature trees framing fairways, water likely visible or in play, and the kind of unhurried atmosphere that this region has quietly attracted families to for generations.
