Battlement Mesa sits on the Western Slope of Colorado, in the broad Garfield County valley carved by the Colorado River. The landscape here is dramatic and distinctly high-desert — tan rimrock cliffs, sagebrush benches, and the massive plateau of Grand Mesa rising to the east. It's a long way from the Front Range golf corridor, which gives the course a quiet, unhurried character that regulars tend to appreciate deeply.
The community of Battlement Mesa was developed in the early 1980s as a planned residential community, and the golf club has long served as the social and recreational anchor of that development. Courses built into this kind of Western Slope terrain typically work with significant elevation change and wide-open panoramas, where the thin, dry air adds real distance to your shots and afternoon winds off the canyon walls demand patience and local knowledge.
At par 72 over 18 holes, this is a course built for the people who live here — a community layout where the regulars know every bounce and the pace of life matches the pace of the round.
