Brasada Canyons sits on the high desert plateau of central Oregon, where the land east of the Cascades opens into a dramatically different world from the rain-soaked valleys to the west. Powell Butte is a small agricultural community in Crook County, and the course is part of the Brasada Ranch resort — a working-ranch-style development that leans into the spare, rugged beauty of this semi-arid landscape. Expect wide skies, volcanic rimrock, juniper scrub, and views toward the Cascades on clear days, including glimpses of the Three Sisters and Mount Jefferson on the horizon.
The course was designed by Peter Jacobsen and Jim Hardy, and it earns its name honestly — the terrain rolls through genuine high desert canyons, with elevation changes that make club selection a constant puzzle. The design uses the natural topography rather than fighting it, so the routing feels earned rather than manufactured.
This is resort golf, but with a rugged, unhurried personality that suits its surroundings. Central Oregon has quietly developed into one of the Pacific Northwest's stronger golf destinations, anchored by nearby Sunriver, Pronghorn, and Crosswater — and Brasada Canyons belongs in that conversation.
