Few golf settings in America announce themselves quite like this one. The Teton Range rises dramatically to the west, providing a backdrop that stops first-time visitors mid-backswing. Robert Trent Jones Jr. designed the course, which opened in 1967 and has earned consistent recognition among Wyoming's finest layouts — a genuine resort-caliber track that draws serious golfers alongside the fly-fishers and wildlife watchers who fill the valley each summer.
RTJ Jr.'s routing makes intelligent use of the flat valley floor, threading through sagebrush and cottonwood while keeping those mountain views in constant conversation with the round. The Snake River country means water comes into play, and the high-altitude air — Jackson sits above 6,000 feet — means the ball carries noticeably farther than golfers accustomed to sea level expect. Afternoon thunderstorms roll in fast during summer, a local reality worth building into any tee-time plan.
Jackson Hole as a destination does most of the heavy lifting before you even arrive. The town itself is equal parts working ranch culture and upscale resort, and the golf club reflects that mix — polished enough to satisfy destination travelers, grounded enough to feel like it belongs to the landscape rather than being imposed on it.
