Few clubs on the island of Ireland carry quite the sense of drama that Howth Golf Club does. Perched on the hillside of the Howth Peninsula northeast of Dublin, the course occupies ground with sweeping views across Dublin Bay toward the Wicklow Mountains and out into the Irish Sea. Founded in 1912, it is one of the older clubs in the greater Dublin area, and its hilltop setting gives it a character that flatland parkland courses simply cannot replicate — the wind, the exposure, and the changing light are as much a part of the round as any bunker or green.
Howth is a heathland layout, and that combination of gorse, heather, and firm turf underfoot places it in a distinct tradition within Irish golf. The terrain is naturally undulating, with elevation changes that reward local knowledge and punish the careless approach.
The fishing village of Howth itself is one of the more charming destinations on Dublin's northern coastline — a short DART ride from the city centre, yet feeling genuinely apart from it.
