The Royal Golf de Meknès carries a pedigree befitting its name — one of Morocco's oldest courses, it sits within the ancient imperial city that Moulay Ismail made his capital in the 17th century. Like many of Morocco's royal golf clubs, it was developed under the patronage of the royal family at a time when King Hassan II was actively promoting golf as a vehicle for tourism and national prestige. Meknès itself is often called "the Versailles of Morocco" for the grand ambitions of its imperial architecture — ramparts, monumental gates, and vast royal stables that survive to this day.
