Fountain Hills sits on the northeastern edge of the Phoenix metro, where the Sonoran Desert starts asserting itself in earnest — saguaro-studded ridgelines, dramatic elevation changes, and views that stretch toward the McDowell Mountains. Sunridge Canyon is built squarely into that terrain, a layout that uses the canyon topography as its central design element rather than as a backdrop. The course carries a serious reputation among desert-golf enthusiasts in the Valley of the Sun, and the routing demands genuine shot-shaping through arroyos and along canyon edges.
Architect Keith Foster designed Sunridge Canyon, and his work here is widely regarded as one of the stronger daily-fee desert designs in the Phoenix area. The course plays as a par 71, which reflects the natural land rather than any attempt to pad yardage, and the design rewards players who respect the desert carries and stay out of the native vegetation flanking the fairways.
Fountain Hills itself is best known for one of the world's tallest fountain displays on the lake at its center — a quietly proud small city that punches above its weight, and the golf here fits that same spirit.
