Golfclub Issum-Niederrhein sits in the flat, open countryside of the Lower Rhine region, where the landscape west of the Rhine unfolds in broad agricultural plains, poplar-lined waterways, and skies that seem wider than anywhere else in Germany. This corner of North Rhine-Westphalia, close to the Dutch border and the towns of Geldern and Kamp-Lintfort, has a quiet, unhurried character that carries directly onto the course — a members' club where the emphasis is on relaxed, sociable golf rather than championship spectacle.
The Lower Rhine terrain means virtually no elevation change, so the design relies on mature tree corridors, strategically placed water features, and the area's persistent westerly winds to generate interest and variety. Playing conditions here can shift considerably with the seasons — winters are damp and grey, while late spring and summer bring lush, soft turf that rewards controlled iron play over power.
As a regional club serving the communities of the Niederrhein, Issum offers the kind of unpretentious, well-maintained golf that forms the backbone of German club culture — a place where members return week after week not for drama, but for the simple pleasure of knowing a course well.
