Few courses along Florida's Emerald Coast carry a name with as much teeth as this one. Shark's Tooth Golf Course sits in Panama City Beach, a stretch of Florida Panhandle coastline better known for sugar-white sand and spring break crowds than serious golf — which makes the caliber of golf here something of a surprise to first-time visitors. The Panhandle's climate runs hot and humid through summer, with a shoulder season in fall and spring that draws players from across the Southeast looking for a warm-weather round without South Florida's prices.
The course plays through the kind of piney, inland terrain typical of Bay County's golf layouts, with the mature tree lines and elevation changes that define northwest Florida's courses rather than the pancake-flat designs of the peninsula. That setting gives Shark's Tooth a more grounded, shaded character than the open coastal tracks further south.
As a resort-oriented destination in one of Florida's most active beach tourism markets, the course caters to a mix of serious golfers and vacationing players looking to get off the beach for a morning — a combination that gives the place an energetic, unpretentious atmosphere year-round.
