Lake Almanor sits in the high northern Sierra Nevada, a volcanic plateau country where the elevation keeps summers cool and the surrounding ponderosa pines grow tall enough to frame every tee shot. This is Plumas County golf — unhurried, scenic, and a long way from the manicured resort corridors of Tahoe. Bailey Creek fits that character well. The layout works through a landscape shaped by centuries of volcanic activity and old-growth conifer forest, and the course has earned a reputation as one of the more interesting mountain tracks in the northern part of the state — the kind of place golfers who've played it tend to remember fondly and recommend quietly.
