Golf de Saint-Samson

Pleumeur-Bodou sits on the wild northern tip of Brittany, where the Côte de Granit Rose earns its name from the extraordinary pink granite boulders that tumble down to the sea. Golf de Saint-Samson occupies this dramatic landscape directly, playing across heathland and clifftop terrain with the English Channel visible from much of the course. The combination of ocean exposure, prevailing Atlantic wind, and rugged coastal scenery places it among the more memorable settings in French golf — a layout where conditions can shift dramatically between a calm morning and a blustery afternoon.

The course wraps around the Île Grande peninsula, and the routing makes genuine use of the terrain rather than simply imposing a design on it. Granite outcroppings appear as natural hazards, gorse lines the edges of fairways, and the salt air is a constant companion. Playing well here requires patience with the wind as much as ball-striking skill.

Pleumeur-Bodou is also home to the iconic Radôme — the giant white geodesic dome that housed France's first transatlantic satellite communications — giving the village an oddly cosmic character alongside its ancient standing stones and fishing coves.
