Chequessett Yacht & Country Club occupies one of the more improbable settings in New England golf — a narrow strip of Cape Cod land in Wellfleet, where the fairways push up against the tidal flats and salt marshes of Wellfleet Harbor. The Outer Cape's light is famously clear, the winds off Cape Cod Bay are famously not, and both define the experience here as much as the course design itself.
At par 70, the layout leans short, but the conditions reliably add the difficulty a scorecard doesn't show. Wind direction changes the calculus on virtually every hole, and the maritime terrain leaves little room for wayward play. This is a course that rewards local knowledge — the kind that accumulates over seasons, not rounds.
The club's dual identity as a yacht and country club reflects Wellfleet's character: a working-artist, fishing, and sailing town at the edge of the Cape Cod National Seashore that resists the polish of more resort-driven communities down-cape. Playing here feels genuinely of a place, which on the Outer Cape is the highest compliment a golf course can earn.
