Few settings in European golf match the visual drama of the Starnberger See region. The Fünfseenland — the Five Lakes district southwest of Munich — is one of Bavaria's most coveted landscapes: Alpine foothills, dense woodland, and the deep blue expanse of Lake Starnberg itself framing virtually every round played here. Golfclub Starnberg occupies that privileged terrain, a private members' club that reflects the affluent, leisure-minded character of a lakeside community long favored by Munich's professional class and, historically, Bavarian royalty.
The course threads through mature forest and gentle elevation changes typical of the morainic landscape left by retreating glaciers — terrain that rewards precise shotmaking over raw power. Tree-lined fairways demand accuracy off the tee, and the ground conditions shift noticeably with the seasons, playing firm and fast in summer, softer and more demanding through the longer Central European autumn.
As a members' club in this part of Bavaria, Starnberg carries the hallmarks of the regional private golf culture: well-maintained conditioning, a clubhouse atmosphere oriented toward the membership, and a genuine sense of place rooted in one of Germany's most beautiful corners.
