Avondale Golf Club sits on one of the most distinctive pieces of golfing land in New South Wales — a volcanic basalt landscape near the foot of the Blue Mountains, roughly an hour west of Sydney. The course has long held a reputation as one of regional Australia's finest, its rich red-brown soils and undulating terrain producing turf conditions and elevation changes that feel genuinely different from the sandbelt and coastal layouts that dominate Australian golf conversation.
The Huntley is Avondale's championship layout, and the club has hosted significant professional and amateur events over the years, drawing competitors who quickly discover that local knowledge matters here. The routing makes intelligent use of the property's natural contours, with holes that reward strategic thinking and penalize lazy tee shots. The green complexes are a particular feature — firm, well-defended, and in keeping with a course that asks you to think about landing zones well before you arrive at them.
Avondale itself is a genuine members' club, and The Huntley carries that character: unhurried, proudly traditional, and rooted in a landscape that still surprises visitors who make the drive west from Sydney.
