Few English links courses can claim a founding story quite like Leasowe's. Established in 1891, it is one of the oldest clubs on the Wirral Peninsula, and its early history is bound up with the great figures of Victorian golf — Robert Chambers and Willie Park Sr. are credited with its original layout, with later refinements shaping the course that exists today. It sits on the exposed coastal plain of Merseyside, hard against the Irish Sea, where the land is flat, windswept, and authentically linkslike in a way that no architect could manufacture.
The ground here is firm and fast, the rough can be punishing, and the wind is the permanent fourth member of every group. That combination rewards low, inventive shot-making over power, and punishes anyone who tries to overpower the course rather than manage it.
The Wirral has a quietly serious golf culture, anchored by Royal Liverpool at Hoylake a few miles south and complemented by a string of strong clubs along the peninsula. Leasowe earns its place in that company — a genuine seaside links with real age and character behind it.
