Few courses in the Home Counties can match the setting that Harleyford commands. Sitting within the Harleyford Estate on the banks of the Thames in Buckinghamshire, the course occupies grounds that have been part of an historic English estate for centuries, with the river serving as both a visual anchor and a genuine strategic hazard throughout the round. The parkland character here is genuinely stately — mature trees, sweeping turf, and the quiet authority of a property that carries real heritage.
Designed by Bob Sandow and opened in 1996, Harleyford quickly established itself as one of the more serious tests in the Thames Valley corridor. The routing makes intelligent use of the river and the natural contours of the estate, rewarding precise shot-making over raw power. Several holes run close enough to the Thames that the water is a constant presence rather than a decorative backdrop.
Harleyford sits near Marlow, a prosperous market town with a strong sense of its own character — and the golf fits that tone, offering a polished, well-maintained members' experience in a genuinely beautiful stretch of English countryside.
