Few golf settings in the Pacific Northwest announce themselves quite like Hood River's. The Columbia River Gorge frames the town on virtually every side — basalt walls, wind-carved terrain, and the constant presence of Mount Hood rising to the south. Hood River itself sits at the intersection of two distinct climates — the wet west side of the Cascades and the high desert to the east — which gives the course a character that shifts noticeably through the season. Spring brings lush, receptive turf; summer arrives dry and fast, with the Gorge's famous winds turning straightforward holes into genuine tests of shot-making.
At par 71, the layout skews slightly away from the standard even-par structure, suggesting a design that favored routing over symmetry — a sensibility that tends to produce more interesting golf than courses built to formula.
