Berkleigh Golf Club sits in the heart of Berks County, Pennsylvania, a region where rolling farmland and the gentle ridges of the Blue Mountains set a backdrop that makes for genuinely attractive golf. Kutztown itself is a small borough best known for its folk festival and the university that bears its name, but the surrounding countryside — open meadows, hardwood-lined hillsides, weathered stone farmsteads — is exactly the kind of terrain that makes for interesting, grounded course design.
Berks County has a modest but earnest golf culture, the kind built on working-class public layouts and longtime member clubs rather than resort spectacle. Berkleigh fits that character: a private club serving a close-knit community in Pennsylvania Dutch country, where the game is taken seriously without being taken pretentiously.
The land here does much of the architectural work. The natural contours of the Lehigh Valley's western edge tend to reward course designers willing to route with the terrain rather than against it, and rounds here carry the unhurried, rooted feel that defines golf in this part of the state.
