Greate Bay Country Club carries one of the more distinctive names in South Jersey golf, and its reputation is equally well-established. The course was designed by William Gordon and has long served as one of the region's most respected private layouts, sitting in Somers Point along the back bays of the Atlantic coast just minutes from Ocean City. Ron Forse completed a significant restoration of the course in the early 2000s that honored Gordon's original routing while sharpening the design's strategic edges.
The setting is quintessential Jersey Shore lowland — flat, exposed, and subject to the coastal winds that can make a par 70 play considerably longer than the card suggests. Mature trees frame many holes, providing definition and shelter, while the salt air and bay breezes are a constant presence that rewards shot-shaping and course management over raw power.
Greate Bay has hosted its share of serious amateur and collegiate competition over the decades, cementing its standing as a genuine test rather than a resort amenity. For players who know South Jersey golf, this club is a familiar benchmark.
