Villa Roma Country Club sits within the Catskill Mountains of Sullivan County, a region that spent much of the 20th century synonymous with the grand resort era of the American Northeast. The Borscht Belt hotels that once defined this landscape — Grossinger's, the Concord, Kutsher's — made Sullivan County a destination built around leisure, and golf was always part of that package. Villa Roma is one of the survivors of that era, a resort-affiliated course that carries the DNA of that particular Catskill hospitality culture.
The terrain here is classically upstate New York — rolling, wooded hills with elevation changes that give the layout its personality and make yardage something of a secondary concern. Expect the kind of course that rewards local knowledge: slopes that funnel errant shots in unexpected directions, tree-lined corridors where the Catskill hardwoods close in on both sides, and views across the ridgelines that remind you why people have been escaping to this corner of New York for generations.
Sullivan County has seen its resort economy ebb and flow, but there's been genuine reinvestment in the area in recent years, and courses like Villa Roma serve both vacationing guests and a loyal regional membership. It's an honest mountain resort track — unpretentious, scenic, and firmly rooted in a place with a rich, specific American story.
