Few courses in Devon carry quite as much historical weight as Stover, which traces its roots back to 1930 and occupies the grounds of the Stover Estate — a landscape with aristocratic origins stretching back centuries. The parkland setting draws from the same ancient grounds that surround Stover House, and the mature woodland framing virtually every hole gives the course a sense of permanence that newer layouts simply cannot manufacture. James Braid, the five-time Open Champion turned prolific course architect, is credited with the original design, placing Stover in genuinely distinguished company.
Newton Abbot sits at the edge of Dartmoor in South Devon, where the granite uplands give way to softer river valleys and a climate mild enough to keep the turf playing through most of the year.
