Few private clubs in Northern California carry a more complicated recent history than Fountaingrove. The original course was destroyed in October 2017 when the Tubbs Fire — one of the most destructive wildfires in California history — swept through Santa Rosa and consumed much of the surrounding Fountaingrove neighborhood. The club's recovery and rebuild became one of golf's more closely watched restoration stories, a testament to the membership's commitment to the land and to one another.
The course sits in the rolling hills northeast of downtown Santa Rosa, in the heart of Sonoma County wine country. This is terrain shaped by oak woodland and volcanic ridgelines, with views that stretch across the valley toward the Mayacamas range. The landscape is quintessentially Northern Californian — golden in summer, dramatically green after the winter rains — and a course routed through it earns most of its character simply from the ground it occupies.
As a private members' club, Fountaingrove is a place built around community as much as golf, and that identity only deepened through the shared experience of loss and rebuilding after the fire.
