Hopkins sits just west of Minneapolis in the inner-ring suburbs, close enough to the city that you can see the skyline on a clear day yet far enough to feel like its own community. The area around Hopkins has a long-established golf culture fed by the Twin Cities' surprisingly passionate golfer population — Minnesotans take the game seriously, squeezing every round they can out of a season that runs roughly May through October before the lakes freeze and the fairways disappear under snow.
Oak Ridge Country Club carries the hallmarks of a private members' club: a community built around the game, regulars who know every quirk of the property, and a course that rewards familiarity over time. The par 70 layout suggests a design that trades a couple of the longer two-shotters for either a shorter routing or additional par 3s, which tends to put a premium on precision and shot-making over raw distance.
The flat-to-gently-rolling terrain typical of this part of the upper Midwest shapes the experience — tree-lined corridors, firm turf in summer, and the kind of course that plays differently as the season shifts from the soft conditions of May to the fast, running fairways of August.
