足柄森林カントリークラブ occupies the forested hills of Oyama-cho, a small mountain town in Shizuoka Prefecture straddling the border with Kanagawa. The course sits within the Ashigara highlands, a densely wooded landscape shaped by the volcanic geology of the Fuji-Hakone region. On clear days, Mount Fuji dominates the western skyline — one of the more dramatic backdrops available to golfers anywhere in the Kanto-Tokai corridor.

The terrain here is genuinely hilly, and the forest canopy is thick enough that the layout feels enclosed and contemplative rather than open and parkland-like. Shots that stray from the fairway find trouble quickly, and elevation changes demand real course management. This is the kind of mountain forest course — known in Japan as a sanrin-kei layout — where the land dictates the routing rather than the other way around.
