Few clubs in western Canada carry the historical weight of Calgary Golf and Country Club. Founded in 1897, it stands among the oldest golf clubs in the country, and its long arc through Alberta's growth from frontier outpost to major city gives it a gravitas that newer courses simply cannot manufacture. The club has been shaped by successive generations of members and architects, and it retains the intimate, proprietary feeling of a place that has been carefully tended rather than commercially developed.
The course sits along the Elbow River in southwest Calgary, where mature trees frame fairways and the river itself comes into play in ways that reward local knowledge.
