Sockton is a small farming community in the rolling hill country of Jo Daviess County, in Illinois's far northwestern corner — closer to Dubuque and Galena than to Chicago, and a world away from the flat prairie most people picture when they think of this state. The terrain here is part of the Driftless Area, a region the glaciers bypassed, leaving behind ridges, creek valleys, and a rugged, genuine landscape that gives golf courses something to work with.
Woodbine Bend reads as a course shaped by that countryside — the kind of layout where the land itself does most of the design work, and a well-placed shot down a curving fairway rewards a golfer who has learned to read the contours. A par 72 at 18 holes suggests a full, unhurried round for players of all abilities.
This corner of Illinois draws visitors for the historic district of nearby Galena, the apple orchards, and the quiet of genuine rural life. Woodbine Bend fits that spirit — golf without pretension, rooted in place.
