Golf du Château de Barbet

Few corners of France preserve the Gascon countryside quite like Gers, the largely rural département southeast of Auch that gave the world Armagnac brandy and Muscat de Rivesaltes, and where sunflower fields and vineyard rows share the horizon with the Pyrenees on clear days. Golf du Château de Barbet sits within this unhurried landscape, a course built around the grounds of a historic château property where the architecture of the land itself — rolling terrain, mature trees, water features drawn from natural watercourses — does much of the design work.

This is very much a country-house course in spirit: intimate in scale, rooted in its estate setting, and oriented toward the kind of unhurried round that Gascon culture quietly encourages. Visitors tend to arrive expecting a modest regional layout and leave with a stronger impression than the scorecard suggested, largely because the setting rewards attention.

Lombez itself, a small bastide town on the Save river, carries genuine medieval character — its cathedral is one of the more quietly remarkable in the southwest — and positions the course as a destination that pairs naturally with the food, wine, and slow rhythms of rural Gascony.
