Crescent Mills sits in Plumas County, deep in California's northern Sierra Nevada, where Highway 89 follows the Indian Valley along the North Fork of the Feather River. It's ranching and timber country, small and unhurried, with mountain meadows opening between stands of ponderosa pine. Golf out here doesn't mean a manicured resort — it means playing because you love the game and the setting, not the amenities.
Mount Huff is a reminder that some of the most honest golf in California happens far outside the radar of rankings and resort circuits. A par 68 signals a layout built around the land as it was found — shorter holes, probably a concentration of par 3s, a design that asks for accuracy and creativity over raw distance. Courses like this tend to reward local knowledge: where the ground firms up, how the mountain air carries the ball, which angles open up the green.
At elevation in the northern Sierra, afternoons can shift fast — calm mornings giving way to afternoon wind or the occasional summer thunderstorm rolling off the ridge. That variability is part of the deal, and regulars here wouldn't trade it.
