Few American cities carry as much history as St. Augustine — the oldest continuously occupied European settlement on the continent — and The Palencia Club sits within the master-planned community of the same name on the city's northern edge, where ancient Florida gives way to salt marsh, tidal creeks, and live oaks draped in Spanish moss. The course occupies that transitional zone between the Intracoastal Waterway corridor and the inland scrub that defines this stretch of Northeast Florida, giving it a distinctly coastal lowland character.
Arthur Hills designed Palencia, routing the layout through the community's varied terrain with his characteristic attention to natural landforms and strategic variety. The course has built a strong local reputation as one of the more serious private-club tests in the St. Augustine–Jacksonville corridor, offering members a genuine championship challenge rather than the gentler resort-style experience common along Florida's coastline.
Northeast Florida golf sits in a compelling middle ground — warm enough to play year-round, but with real seasons, prevailing Atlantic breezes, and afternoon summer storms that keep the game honest. Palencia fits that tradition comfortably.
