Harrisonburg sits in the heart of the Shenandoah Valley, where the Blue Ridge Mountains rise to the east and Massanutten to the west — one of the more dramatic natural settings you'll find in Virginia golf. The region's rolling terrain and elevation changes make for layouts that feel genuinely three-dimensional, where the land dictates the game rather than the other way around.
A course carrying "Peak" or "Mountain" in its name in this part of Virginia almost certainly earns it. Shenandoah Valley courses tend to reward course management over raw power, with slopes and sight lines that can fool first-timers into misreading both distance and wind. The surrounding hardwood forests give rounds a seasonal character that flatland courses simply can't match — fall golf here, with the ridgelines turning color, is a genuine reason to make the drive.
Harrisonburg itself is a lively mid-Valley college town, home to James Madison University, and supports a healthy local golf culture. At par 72 and full 18 holes, this layout reads as a complete, regulation test rather than a novelty track.
