Spawell has long been one of south Dublin's most accessible and well-used short courses, occupying a compact site in Templeogue that has served the local golfing community for decades. The course sits alongside the Spawell leisure complex, a familiar landmark for generations of Dubliners, and its character is resolutely unpretentious — this is a place where beginners find their footing, where juniors are introduced to the game, and where time-pressed city dwellers can squeeze in a quick round without the commitment of a full 18-hole layout.
Templeogue itself is a settled, leafy suburb in the south of the city, sitting along the River Dodder corridor and bordered by the foothills that eventually rise toward the Dublin Mountains. Golf in this part of the county ranges from the storied parkland clubs of Milltown and Stackstown to the breezy heathland of Grange, but Spawell occupies a different niche entirely — functional, friendly, and entirely without pretension.
For those new to the game or returning after a long break, it offers a genuine on-ramp into golf without the formality of a members' club. Expect well-worn but manageable ground, a welcoming atmosphere, and the kind of round that fits neatly into a busy Dublin afternoon.
