Few towns anywhere in the world carry the weight that St Andrews does for golfers. Home to the game's oldest club and the most famous stretch of linksland on earth, this small Fife coastal town is where the rules, rituals, and culture of golf were largely shaped. Playing here means stepping into that living history, regardless of which of the town's courses you're on.
The New Course sits directly alongside the Old Course, sharing the same wind-scoured terrain above the West Sands beach. Opened in 1895 — making it well over a century old despite the name — it was designed to meet growing demand when the Old Course simply couldn't accommodate everyone who wanted to play. It occupies genuine links ground: firm, fast, subject to the North Sea wind, and entirely at the mercy of the Scottish weather.
For visiting golfers, the New Course offers something rare: a legitimate links challenge on authentic St Andrews turf, without the ballot anxiety and pilgrimage pressure that surrounds its famous neighbor.
