Salems Golfklubb sits in the municipality of Salem, one of the smaller communities in Stockholm County, just southwest of Södertälje on the forested Södertörn peninsula. The course occupies terrain typical of this part of Sweden — granite-ribbed, lake-dotted landscape carved by glaciers, with dense stands of pine and birch framing virtually every hole. This is commuter-belt Stockholm golf: serious enough to test a handicap, accessible enough to draw club members from the surrounding suburbs for an after-work round during the long Scandinavian summer evenings.
The club has the character of a genuine members' community rather than a destination resort, with the relaxed but golf-serious atmosphere that defines Swedish club culture. Swedish golfers tend to be well-versed in rules and etiquette, and the courses they build and maintain reflect that — orderly, well-kept, and honest in how they use the natural ground.
The wooded, rolling terrain of Södertörn means uneven lies and elevation changes are a constant factor, and trees are very much in play. Par here is earned rather than given.
