Timberline Golf Course

Dubuque County's rolling farm country makes for natural golf terrain — the kind of landscape where fairways follow the land's own contours rather than forcing anything into shape. Peosta sits just west of Dubuque in the driftless region of northeast Iowa, a corner of the state that escaped the last glaciation and was left with the dramatic ridges, wooded bluffs, and steep valleys that set it apart from the flatter plains to the west. Golf courses in this part of Iowa tend to have a genuine topographic character that courses on flatter ground simply can't manufacture.

Timberline reads, from its name at least, as a layout that leans into the wooded hillside identity of the area — the kind of everyday public course that serves as the honest backbone of local golf, more interested in a fair challenge and a good afternoon than in impressing anyone.

Northeast Iowa's season runs spring through fall, with summers that are genuinely comfortable and autumn rounds that offer some of the best color in the Midwest.
