Poplar Ridge Golf Course sits at the doorstep of Riding Mountain National Park, one of Manitoba's most dramatic landscapes — a forested plateau rising sharply from the surrounding prairie, home to bison, elk, and black bear. Onanole is the small gateway community to the park, which means playing here puts you at an elevation and in a setting that feels genuinely removed from the flat agricultural plains that define much of this province. The course takes full advantage of that terrain, with the rolling, tree-lined character you'd expect from land shaped by the Riding Mountain escarpment rather than the open parkways more typical of Manitoba golf.
As a community course serving the Parkland region, Poplar Ridge draws a loyal local following — cottagers, park visitors, and residents from nearby Wasagaming and Dauphin making up the bulk of its traffic through the short Manitoba summer season.
It's the kind of place where wildlife sightings mid-round are genuinely common, the pace is unhurried, and the natural surroundings do most of the heavy lifting scenically. For visitors to Riding Mountain, it rounds out a stay in a region with far more to offer than the scorecard suggests.
