Erinvale Estate

Gary Player redesigned Erinvale in the mid-1990s, and the course quickly made its mark by hosting the Alfred Dunhill Challenge in 1996 and 1997 — at the time one of the more prestigious stops on the European Tour's end-of-season swing through South Africa. That international exposure cemented Erinvale's reputation as one of the Western Cape's most credible tournament venues, and it remains among the more respected layouts in the region.

The course occupies the Helderberg foothills on the edge of Somerset West, with the Hottentots Holland mountains forming a dramatic backdrop that changes character with the light. The fynbos-covered slopes, vineyard surroundings, and proximity to False Bay mean conditions can shift quickly — a calm morning round can turn brisk and blustery by afternoon, which adds a genuine tactical dimension that the card alone never conveys.

Erinvale plays as part of a private estate but welcomes visiting golfers, giving it the manicured feel of a members' club without being entirely exclusive. The combination of mountain scenery, Cape winelands setting, and a course with real tournament pedigree makes it a natural stop for serious golfers travelling through this corner of South Africa.
