Few golf settings in Queensland match the sheer improbability of this one. North Stradbroke Island — or "Straddie" as locals call it — is a large sand island off the coast of Brisbane, accessible only by ferry from Cleveland or Toondah Harbour. Getting here is half the experience: you're not just driving to the course, you're crossing Moreton Bay.
Dunwich is the quieter, more lived-in corner of the island, away from the tourist bustle of Point Lookout, and the golf club reflects that unhurried character. This is community golf in the truest sense — a course that belongs to islanders first, with the kind of relaxed, welcoming atmosphere that resort golf often tries to simulate but rarely achieves. The sandy soils typical of barrier islands tend to produce fast-draining, firm turf that plays differently from mainland parkland tracks.
