Oldfield Golf Club occupies a stretch of the South Carolina Lowcountry that feels genuinely removed from the resort corridor of nearby Hilton Head Island — a private residential community set among tidal marshes, live oaks draped in Spanish moss, and the kind of quiet that the Bluffton area still manages to preserve. The Greg Norman design opened in 2003 and routes its holes through this coastal terrain with a deliberate naturalism, letting the saltmarsh come fully into play and giving the course a wide, breathing quality uncommon in the region.
Norman's layouts tend to reward strategic thinking over brute force, and Oldfield fits that mold — generous enough off the tee in places, but the approaches and short game demand real precision when the wind moves off the water, which it does often. The back nine in particular works along the marsh edges in a way that makes the landscape feel less like a backdrop and more like an active part of the challenge.
This is a members' and residents' course, not a walk-up public venue, so the pace and atmosphere reflect that — unhurried, well-maintained, and oriented toward people who live on the property and take the game seriously.
