Golf Club Ortenau sits in the Ortenau region of Baden-Württemberg, a stretch of southwestern Germany wedged between the Black Forest to the east and the Rhine plain that borders Alsace to the west. This is some of the most quietly beautiful golfing country in Germany — fertile, green, and framed by forested hills that give any round a sense of unhurried scale. Lahr itself is a mid-sized town with an easy connection to both Freiburg and Strasbourg, making the club accessible to players from across the Upper Rhine valley.
The course plays through the gentle, open landscape typical of this part of the Ortenau, with the Black Forest ridgeline providing a persistent backdrop. Like many established German Verein clubs, Golf Club Ortenau carries a strong membership culture — this is a place built around the game as a long-term pursuit, with a community feel that distinguishes it clearly from resort or pay-and-play operations.
The climate here benefits from the Rhine rift valley's relative warmth, giving the region one of the longer playing seasons in Germany, and the turf tends to reflect that — generally firm and well-maintained well into autumn.
