Caughnawaga Golf Club sits on the territory of Kahnawake, a Mohawk community on the south shore of the St. Lawrence River, just across from Montreal. The course takes its name from the older spelling of Kahnawake, and playing here means moving through land that carries deep Indigenous history — the St. Lawrence corridor visible in the distance, the Montreal skyline not far off. That geographic position, straddling two worlds, gives the club a character unlike anything in the greater Montreal golf scene.

The course plays through mature tree cover typical of lowland Quebec, with the kind of tight, wooded fairways that demand accuracy over raw distance. Montreal's golf season runs roughly May through October, and the region's distinct seasons mean the course shifts considerably — soft and green in early summer, firm and fast by August.
