Wheelersburg sits in the Ohio Valley foothills of Scioto County, where the land rolls and folds along the Little Scioto River corridor in a way that flat-state golfers find immediately disorienting — in the best sense. This is southern Ohio's hill country, close to the Kentucky border, where the Appalachian plateau begins to assert itself and tree-lined valleys give everyday golf courses a natural drama that course architects in flatter regions have to manufacture artificially.
Little Scioto GC is a public layout serving a region where golf tends to be unpretentious, community-rooted, and genuinely walkable — the kind of course where regulars know every bounce and every slope by feel after years of weekend rounds. Par 72 over 18 holes suggests a full, traditional test rather than a quick executive outing.
The Little Scioto River itself lends the course its name and almost certainly some of its character — waterways in this terrain don't sit still, they carve, and any course built alongside one earns its challenges honestly from the land rather than from a design committee.
