Ozona Country Club occupies a singular place in Texas golf — a full 18-hole layout serving one of the most remote communities in the entire state. Ozona is the county seat of Crockett County and, famously, the only town in that county, sitting deep in the Chihuahuan Desert transition zone of the Trans-Pecos and Edwards Plateau. Out here, where pronghorn outnumber tourists and the nearest traffic light is a long drive away, a private country club with a regulation course is a genuine point of civic pride.
The landscape shapes everything about playing here. Expect scrubby desert vegetation, caliche soil, and the kind of wide-open sky that makes every shot feel exposed. Wind is a constant factor across this high plateau terrain, and it has a way of humbling scorecards far more effectively than any architectural trick.
For traveling golfers, Ozona CC represents something increasingly rare — a working small-town club where golf is genuinely woven into community life, not a resort amenity or an exclusivity statement. It's worth the detour off US-290 simply for the experience of playing golf this far from anywhere.
