Founded in 1898, El Paso Country Club ranks among the oldest golf clubs in Texas and carries the kind of institutional weight that comes with more than a century of continuous operation. The club has evolved considerably since its earliest days, eventually settling into its current home where the layout winds through one of the city's most established residential corridors. It is a private members' club in the truest sense — a place where the game is secondary only to the social fabric that binds generations of El Paso families together.
The setting itself shapes how the course plays. El Paso sits at roughly 3,700 feet of elevation in the high Chihuahuan Desert, which means the ball carries farther than golfers accustomed to sea level expect, the air is reliably dry, and the sky above the Franklin Mountains is almost aggressively blue. Bermuda fairways and the sun-baked landscape give the course a character distinctly its own.
As a par-71 private layout, this is not a course chasing resort attention or tournament prestige — it earns its reputation quietly, through the loyalty of a membership that returns year after year to a track that rewards course knowledge above all else.
