Farmlinks Golf Club occupies a genuinely rare piece of American golf real estate — a working agricultural research farm in the Coosa Valley of central Alabama, owned by the Sonat/Vulcan Materials family of companies. The course was designed by Tim Liddy and opened in 2000, built across active farmland where cattle graze beyond the fairways and crops rotate with the seasons. That agricultural setting isn't decoration; it's the point. Farmlinks was conceived as both a championship course and a living demonstration of land stewardship, and it plays host to agribusiness conferences and corporate outings as much as it does pure golf.
The design makes dramatic use of rolling piedmont terrain, with elevation changes uncommon for this part of Alabama. Holes wind through hardwood corridors and open pastoral stretches, giving the round a varied, almost pastoral rhythm that keeps the layout interesting from start to finish.
Sylacauga itself sits in Talladega County, a region better known for its marble quarries and NASCAR than for golf. Farmlinks stands as a genuine outlier — a private, invitation-access facility of genuine championship quality in an unexpected corner of the Deep South.
